OVERVIEW

Here’s a fantastic opportunity to travel with like-minded people and attend the once-a-decade renowned Oberammergau Passion Play. The play itself is a powerful and deeply moving religious experience. There is a rich 400-year history surrounding the small village in Bavaria fulfilling the vow to God to perform the Passion Play.  Our tour is designed to help us better appreciate this context and join our thanks to those offered by all the generations that have gone before us. This tour also takes advantage of the European spring season, with the beauty and mild weather.  There’ll be plenty of time to enjoy some of the great German-speaking cities of central Europe – Berlin, Dresden and Vienna; experiencing the life, culture, religion and history of these cities.

DJ Konz is the Associate Dean and Head of Theology at Alphacrucis College, Sydney. Previously, he was an executive with Compassion Australia, most recently as the Executive Director of Advocacy. His PhD in systematic and historical theology is from Aberdeen University, Scotland. DJ has a great interest in the German-speaking world, and lectures on the theology of some of the great twentieth-century German-speaking Christian leaders, including Dietrich Bonhoeffer and Karl Barth, both of whom opposed the Nazis in the lead up to and during WWII. DJ has led trips to countries across Africa, Asia, Latin America and the Middle East, and to Oberammergau in 2010. He is especially excited about sharing with others the amazing Oberammergau experience, along with some of the culture, history and highlights of Germany and Austria in 2020.

ITINERARY

Please ensure you are at the Berlin hotel by 6pm for our group meeting and welcome dinner.

Berlin is one of the great world cities, once again the German capital. Split down the middle by The Wall at the height of the Cold War, the reunified city has now experienced a massive rebuilding. At the heart is elegant grandeur of the central avenue, the Unter den Linden, stretching from the parliament and the Brandenburg Gate through to the museums, cathedrals and the royal palace (under reconstruction) at the eastern end. History, politics, intrigue, culture, tragedy, beauty - all go together to make Berlin unique.
