Here’s a fantastic opportunity for independent travellers to attend the once-a-decade renowned Oberammergau Passion Play. The play itself is a powerful and deeply moving religious experience. There is a rich 400-year history surrounding the small village in Bavaria fulfilling the vow to God to perform the Passion Play.  Our tour is designed to help us better appreciate this context and join in our thanks to those offered by all the generations that have gone before us. This tour also takes advantage of the European spring and summer season, with the beauty and warm weather.  There’ll be plenty of time to enjoy some of the great German-speaking cities of central Europe – Berlin, Dresden and Vienna; experiencing the life, culture, religion and history of these cities.

The ONLY date we have left is  7-10 August 2020.

Upon arrival at Munich Airport you will be met and transferred to your hotel in Freising (approx. 30 minute drive). Freising is the oldest city in Bavaria with and an almost 1300 year history. The Romanesque cathedral on the Domberg and numerous other historic architectural monuments invite a visit. The picturesque squares, nooks and alleys invite you to stroll around and have a look. Take a walk to the Weihenstephan Hill with its “green” campus, the lovely show gardens and the oldest existing brewery in the world. Your hotel is located in the main street with lovely shops, bakeries and cafes to ensure your stay will be an enjoyable one.

Performed in German on open-air stages in the village it is a play of life and death, promised in a moment of mortal threat, and so began the history of the Oberammergau Passion Play. In 1633 the Black Plague was sweeping through Europe, the villagers of Oberammergau vowed that if their town was spared, they would perform the Passion of Christ every 10 years. The town was spared and have been honouring this pledge from generation to generation.
